Local Musicians to Host Summer Songwriting Camp for Kids
Thursday, May 27, 2010
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma folk singer-songwriter K.C. Clifford and her indie rocker husband David “Dr. Pants” Broyles will host two summer songwriting camps for children age seven and older June 14-17 and July 12-15 at The Convergence Creative Space, 1755 N.W. 16th St. in Oklahoma City’s Plaza District.
K.C. Clifford is a three-time Woody Guthrie Award winning singer-songwriter with more than 10 years experience as a professional performer. David Broyles is lead singer of the popular indie rock band Dr. Pants. The pair has a long history of songwriting collaboration, and is currently touring together in support of Clifford’s new album, Orchid.
Each 4-day songwriting session will be divided into two age groups: ages 7-12 from 9 a.m. to noon, and ages 13 and older from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. No prior music experience is necessary. Adults are welcome in the afternoon session.
The cost is $200 per student and includes 12 hours of group and individual instruction.
Participants will learn the basics of songwriting, including inspiration, song structure and the “vocabulary” of songwriting through group and individual songwriting exercises. Each song the child writes individually or in collaboration will be recorded and included on their take-home CD.
Class size is limited to 15. Email K.C. Clifford at kcclifford@kcclifford.com for more information or to register.
